Finding Symbols
FutPrint covers the Indian markets across the NSE, BSE and MCX exchanges, including indices, equities, futures and options. Three places let you pick an instrument, and each search is shaped for the job it does.
From the Chart
Click the symbol in the chart toolbar. The Search Instruments dialog opens with the current symbol filled in; the box is labelled Search symbols... (min 2 characters).
- 1Type at least 2 characters
Search begins at two characters and updates as you type, pausing briefly after each keystroke so it isn't searching mid-word.
- 2Pick a tab
Results are grouped under Indices, Futures, Equity and Options, each with a count. The footer tells you how many of that tab's results are showing.
- 3Read the row, then click it
Each row shows the instrument's name with its exact symbol underneath. Click a row to load it on the chart. Your timeframe, indicators and drawings stay as they were.
From a Watchlist or Heatmap
The + button (Add symbols) on a Watchlist or Heatmap opens the Add Symbols dialog. It has three tabs.
- Symbol β type three or more characters (Type 3+ characters to searchβ¦). Results are grouped as Index, Spot/Cash, Futures, Options and Others, with a count on each group; chips above the list narrow it to one group. Each row shows the symbol, a segment badge such as EQ, the exchange (NSE / BSE) and, for futures, the contract's expiry date.
- Industry β browse every stock in an industry.
- Index β browse every constituent of an index.
Clicking a row adds that symbol immediately: the row dims and the dialog stays open, so you can keep adding. There is no separate confirm step. On the Industry and Index tabs, + Add All adds every symbol in the selected group that is not already in your list.
From the Option Chain
The symbol box in the Option Chain toolbar searches once you have typed three characters and returns only underlyings that have an option chain (indices and stocks with listed options and futures), so you can't pick something that cannot show a chain.
Each search is filtered to what makes sense where you are: the chart search offers everything it can draw, the watchlist search offers everything it can quote, and the Option Chain search offers only optionable underlyings.
Futures and the underlying
Futures contracts carry a roll suffix: -I is the near month, -II the next and
-III the one after (some symbols write it as _I and _II). The Add Symbols dialog
shows each contract's expiry date beside it, so the three are easy to tell apart.
When you load a futures contract into the Option Chain, FutPrint resolves it to its
underlying (for example TCS-I β TCS) so the chain, spot and futures all
line up.
You rarely need to search in every panel. Give a chart, an option chain and a watchlist the same colour under Link Panels and a click in the watchlist loads that symbol in the others. See Working with Panels.
